Biografie

Marion Hänsel (b. 1949, Marseille) is an intenationally award-winning Belgian filmmaker. She established Man’s Films in 1977 in order to shoot her first short film Equilibres. Her feature film debut was The Bed (Le lit, 1982). Subsequent films which she directed and produced garnered numerous international awards, among them Dust (1983), Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea (1995 – screened during Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes), Sounds of Sand (Si le vent souleve les sables, 2006) and Black Ocean (Noir océan, 2010 – Venice IFF). She has produced and co-produced around a dozen films by other directors (including Jacques Doillon, Danis Tanović). Her film On Earth as in Heaven (Sur la terre come au ciel) was screened in the main competition at KVIFF 1992. In 1988-2003 she served several times as president of the French Community Film Selection Board.
