Joe Swanberg

Graduated from Southern Illinois University with a degree in Cinema and Photography. He is the director of many acclaimed films including Hannah Takes the Stairs, Uncle Kent, and a segment entitled "The Sick Thing That Happened to Emily When She Was Younger" in the horror anthology, V/H/S, which he also acted in.

His films have premiered at Sundance, Berlin and SXSW and regularly show on television and in theaters around the world. His production, Drinking Buddies, stars Olivia Wilde and Jake Johnson as flirtatious friends who work at a craft brewery in Chicago. Anna Kendrick and Ron Livingston also star in the film, which was produced by Alicia Van Couvering (Tiny Furniture) and shot by Ben Richardson (Beasts of the Southern Wild).

As an actor, Swanberg has worked with many of the leading young independent filmmakers, including Aaron Katz, Ry Russo-Young, Bryan Poyser, Frank V. Ross and Zack Clark. Along with his wife, Kris, he produced, directed and starred in the hit IFC web series "Young American Bodies." He is best known for his acting work with friend and frequent collaborator Adam Wingard, starting with What Fun We Were Having and continuing with A Horrible Way to Die and You're Next. He can be seen as the lead in the Ti West/Eli Roth production, The Sacrament.
