Born in Osaka in 1955. Tanaka won numerous awards for her leading role in the 1983 film Amagi Pass, including Best Actress Award at the Montreal World Film Festival, Blue Ribbon Award for Best Actress, Kinema Junpo Award for Best Actress, and Mainichi Film Award for Best Actress.
