Biografie

Jayro Bustamante studied Communication at the University of San Carlos of Guatemala and Film Directing at the CLCF in Paris; he later trained as a screenwriter at the Experimental Film Centre in Rome. His first feature film, Ixcanul (2015), received the Alfred Bauer Prize at the Berlin Festival after having screened at Films in Progress in San Sebastian, to which he returned to compete in Horizontes Latinos. Temblores (Tremors, 2019) had its release in the Panorama section of the Berlinale, won the Audience and Rail d’Oc awards in Toulouse, and competed in Horizontes Latinos in San Sebastian. In 2018, his project La llorona won the EFADs-CACI Award at the Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum in San Sebastian. The film screened in Le Giornati degli Autori at the Venice Festival.
