Biografie

Robert Eggers hails from Brooklyn. To date he has worked as a production designer in film, television, publishing and the theatre. He previously directed numerous classic stage plays, including Shakespeare's Hamlet and Othello, and Goethe's Faust. His short films have won a series of awards; the best known include a distinctive adaptation of the classic fairy tale Hansel and Gretel (2007), a film reminiscent of the Edgar Allan Poe story The Tell-Tale Heart (2008), and a variation on the biblical story of Cain and Abel entitled Brothers (2013), which last year led influential Filmmaker Magazine to include him among the top 25 most talented new faces of independent film. His feature-length debut The Witch (2015) proved a sensation this year at its world premiere at Sundance.
