Das Ehepaar Templeton (Marsha Mason, John Beck), wird seit Wochen von einem Mann namens Hoover (Anthony Hopkins) verfolgt. Er versucht sie davon zu überzeugen, daß seine Tochter Audrey Rose, die vor sieben Jahren bei einem Autounfall ums Leben kam, in ihrer Tochter Ivy (Susan Swift) weiterlebt. Audrey starb Minuten vor Ivys Geburt. Als Ivy immer häufiger von Alpträumen heimgesucht wird – sie träumt vom Flammentod in einem Auto – erlauben sie Hoover, mit ihr in Kontakt zu treten. The American film Audrey Rose is a successful demonstration of how it is possible to make a horror film that is not primarily a horror film. It's a strong drama, there are strong emotions, and then there's an element that gives it just that extra something, something dark and insidious that seeks to get into your head and unsettle you. Towards the end, you get a resolution that will shake you up, especially from an emotional point of view.
