Pete and Freddie (Bud Abbott and Lou Costello) overhear a Cairo archaeologists's chatter about discovering a legendary mummy and decide to apply as chaperones for the corpse's journey to America. But when they arrive at the archaeologists' home, he has been murdered, the mummy seems to have disappeared, and to top it all off, the boys become owners of a sacred medallion that holds the key to the location of an ancient buried treasure that many would kill for! Learning that the medallion is cursed, Pete hides it in a most appetizing place and Freddie bites the bait. Then it's up to the bumbling American's to preserve the legend of the mummy and keep the treasure from falling into the wrong hands. Abbott and Costello Meet The Mummy is loaded with surprises. One of the most interesting is Lou Costello's daughter Carole appearing as the cigarette girl who pours water all over her dad! This gem of a film is filled with laughs for everyone in your family - especially Mummy! (Universal Pictures UK)

Englisch I've written this before with another of their films, but I'll say it again: cursed be the day Lou Costello believed he was a good comedian, or that he had any acting talent. Here again, he's awkwardly goofing around, constantly throwing direct glances at the camera as if to highlight the "joke" he just made. He's a real pain to watch. His partner is much better, his speech is rather subdued and as if it was beyond the business of which of the duo is the smarter one. Otherwise this wannabe slapstick Laurel and Hardy type, like Costello, isn't very funny, though there are two or three good ideas. But I can't completely condemn it, it has beautiful, classic, old-fashioned Egyptian sets (the whole thing was filmed in a studio), and my eye was captivated by them. But until next time, I'll think twice about wasting my time with the Abbott-Costello duo. Perhaps just to understand why they were such a big phenomenon at the turn of the 1940s and 50s. ()

Englisch The American comedy Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy is not exactly explosive, but every now and then there is some humor that will amuse, whether it's situational comedy, a catchphrase, or simply a grimacing actor. This film does nothing for mummies, and there isn’t a great story is it or even anything that is particularly exciting beyond the comedy. But it's entertaining enough for one viewing. ()
