The Wolf of Snow Hollow

The Wolf of Snow Hollow begrüßt den Zuschauer mit einem ansprechenden Intro und einem vielversprechenden Thema über eine verschlafene Stadt ("Sleepy" Snow Hollow), die von einem psychopathischen Wahnsinnigen oder... vielleicht etwas anderem, dem Übernatürlichen, beherrscht wird. Leider verliert der Film durch die Hauptfigur John, die unverständlich hysterisch und nervig war, unglaublich. Gleichzeitig waren die Nebenfiguren wie der kranke Vater (RIP Robert Forster) oder Julia sympathisch. Was die Auflösung betrifft, so fand ich sie ziemlich seltsam - überraschend und in gewisser Weise neuartig, aber seltsam. Trotz einiger schwarzhumoriger Momente, die den Film ein wenig auflockern, hat mir das Stück (leider) nicht gefallen. Vielleicht gebe ich dem Film in Zukunft noch eine Chance (88 % auf Rotten Tomatoes passen nämlich für mich nicht). P.S. Jim Cummings hat unverkennbar markante Eckzähne - Zufall?! (11.10.2020)

"Please enlighten us! Did you take forensic psychology at your college online?" - There are definitely some funny lines and a few good scares in the horror-comedy thriller The Wolf of Snow Hollow, but for some reason it doesn't really work together. The basis of a good movie should be a good script, but this one is not one of the best. Yet the picturesque mountain setting where the action takes place could have served as a great backdrop for a nicely chilling horror film. (40%) (08.03.2023)

A massive effort to produce a sober and as realistic as possible take on werewolf horror that at first glance offers an interesting blend of satiric crime drama with a murderous monster in the attractive setting of a snowy neo-western. The scenes with the hairy creature are great and the climax is quite surprising, but the rest is mostly unappealing family filler and an unlikeable protagonist whose actions are quite a big obstacle to the potentially tense entertainment. The humour doesn’t hurt, but other that one truly funny scene, it lacks memorable poetics and is unable to hide the fact that the ambitious creator means this very seriously, and the comedy reliefs are only pasted on the ineffective development of the characters, who themselves are ineffective. It’s OK to waste 80 minutes of your life, but we will still have to wait for a properly good werewolf film. 55% (15.10.2020)
