The happy couple of the original, Eliška and Jindřich, are forced to part when Jindřich is called to war: a foolish prince longs to make Eliška his wife and thinks he'll get the chance if he impresses Jindřich INTO the army. Dressed as poor wayfarer he tries to woo her. But Jindřich returns FROM Turkey and punishes the prince with the help of sprightly ghoul friends. (Verleiher-Text)

Zdeněk sinned commercially and answered the call for a sequel and a series. The principal idea was not a bad one with one celebrity replacing another. Only the war against the Turk exceeded the same limit as the first meeting with the prince. Fortunately, the awkwardness of the rejuvenating bark was filtered through decent humor. In addition, the pleasure of the perfection of the South Bohemian picturesqueness was fortunately redeemed by long expectations and no waste.

Die erste Mühlenprinzessin ist ein recht sympathisch verfilmter Märchenklassiker, den man sich gerne hin und wieder anschaut. Es ist schade, dass die Filmemacher nicht in Böhmens Hain und Flur geblieben sind und beschlossen haben, den zweiten Film durch eine exotischen Linie mit Türken aufzupeppen, was bei mir weder jetzt noch in der Schulzeit funktioniert hat. Am besten gefiel mir im zweiten Teil die Darstellung der Beziehung zwischen Jindřich und Eliška, während mir das Teufel-Wassermann-Theater nicht so gut gefiel (und mich manchmal sogar in Bezug auf den Teufel irritierte). Ich war auch nicht glücklich mit der Neubesetzung der Hexe - Lucie Bílá hat mir besser gefallen. Ich denke, es ist gut, dass es keinen dritten Teil gibt!
