Melanie is a top TV news reporter, living in New York with her twin teenage daughters. Peter is a handsome and divorced heart surgeon working at an L.A. hospital with three children of his own. Die Verfilmungen von Danielle Steel sollen erfolgreicher sein als die Romane selbst. Das ist schwer zu verstehen. Jedenfalls handelt es sich um eine Spezialität, die eine "gewöhnliche Lebenssituation" beschreibt, in der zwei geschiedene Familien zusammenkommen und, nachdem sie ihre Differenzen zwischen einer unendlichen Anzahl von Kindern beigelegt haben, das Glück durch die Zeugung eines neuen Sprösslings besiegelt wird. Eines der Kinder ist ROC, eine Schauspielerin, die bis heute an ihren einzigen Karriereerfolg - die Wasserträgerin Xenas - anknüpft.
