Amerika, in den 1960ern. Frank W. Abagnale ist höchst erfolgreich, und das mit 21 Jahren ohne jeglichen Highschoolabschluss. Der jugendliche Meister der Täuschung erlebt berufliche Höhenflüge als Arzt, Rechtsanwalt und Kopilot einer namhaften Fluglinie. Scheckbetrügereien bringen ihm ein Vermögen von mehreren Millionen Dollar ein. FBI-Agent Carl Hanratty hat den Betrüger schon längst im Visier, doch auf der abenteuerlichen Jagd ist ihm Frank immer einen Schritt voraus. (ORF)

Ein sehr angenehmer Film zum Entspannen. Sein größtes Plus ist die Tatsache, dass man an ihm – im Unterschied zu Minority Report – auch mit einer Laufzeit von 141 Minuten nichts kritisieren kann. Das Drehbuch und die Regie sind gefühlvoll und elegant. Der Humor und das Drama sind in einem ausgezeichneten Gleichgewicht. Die Stars des Films sind aber nicht Leonardo DiCaprio und Tom Hanks, sondern der hervorragende Christopher Walken und Steven Spielberg.

A three man show of the director, the composer and the actor. Spielberg didn't mess up his return to the comedy genre (though - is it even a comedy?) this time, and John Williams, who has been showing deep stagnation lately, scored big. And lastly, does anyone else still doubt that Leo DiCaprio is a great actor?

Ryze oddechová, ale navýsost příjemná a scénáristicky i režijně pečlivě ošetřená retrokomedie o polepšení jednoho vykutáleného podvodníčka. Po celou dobu si udržuje tempo a prakticky nemá slabé místo. Svěží dílko založené na dobře vypointovaných komických situacích a charisma hereckého trojlístku DiCapria, Hankse a Walkena. Frankovi jsem jeho kouzlo osobnosti upřímně záviděl...Americký mladší bratříček našeho snímku Vrchní prchni. Jedna z těch vzácných komedií, které dokáží oslovit většinu diváků, aniž by se nutně podbízely lacinými vtípky. Celkový dojem 90 %.

You can see that once Spielberg sheds the weight of the heavy subject matter he usually has to comment on with sufficient deference, his seat loosens considerably and he finally starts to fully devote himself to the parameters through which he more or less made his name, namely choreography, set design, and the rhythm of the plot. You can feel the release and inner calm in every scene of this film, with Kaminski's years of experience with Spielberg naturally inscribed into it, so that any shot that passes here sort of casually wouldn't be something most filmmakers couldn’t put together in a lifetime or would build a film around.
