Englisch The swan song of director Vladimír Slavínský and the pre-war era of Czech cinema, to which the film undoubtedly belongs thematically. It was followed by an era of engaged cinema full of building heroism and battles against the agents of imperialism. Among Slavínský's works, I probably like this film the most. It's a decent piece of craftsmanship without the obvious calculation and overly sweet sentimentality compared to Slavínský's films from the 1930s. Moreover, Jaroslav Marvan fits excellently into the role of the uncompromising head of the family. Overall, it's a simple work, but well-acted and directed, and a pleasant return to Czech film history. Overall impression 70%. ()
