Zwei Stunden vor Mitternacht

Es ist schwer zu glauben, dass dies das Debüt von Jack Sholder ist, der drei Jahre später das zweite Abenteuer von Fred Krueger vermasselte. Zwei Stunden vor Mitternacht ist nämlich ein fantastischer und etwas untypischer Slasher, bei dem man sich nie zu hundert Prozent sicher sein kann, was als Nächstes passiert. Die vier entkommenen Irren sind nämlich so unvorhersehbar wie das Aprilwetter und bringen in einigen Momenten eine anständige Spannung mit sich. Die psychopathischen Maniacs sind wirklich gut ausgewählt, besonders Martin Landau als Prediger war außergewöhnlich überzeugend. Ich hatte zwar etwas mehr Opfer erwartet, die Morde sind nicht sehr blutig und fleischig, aber trotzdem konnte mich der Film von den ersten Minuten bis zum Ende auf seine Seite ziehen. P.S .: Die Schöpfer des mittelmäßigen Filmes Valentine haben sich sicherlich von einem auftretenden Element (Nasenbluten) inspirieren lassen. Ansonsten eine Zufriedenheit von 80 Prozent. I was tempted to smoke three for that last scene, but that’s not happening. Such a collection of poor logic, awkward scenes, and non-actors is typical of bad 80s production. What’s more, everyone in the house, except maybe the protagonist, is acting like nothing much is going on. On top of that, the film features an utterly mega-unappealing child character who is literally crying out to be put down. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen. (02.04.2010)

Quite decent. The best bit are the runaway psychopaths, who are perfectly portrayed. It’s not the scariest horror out there (though the last half hour does have something resembling an atmosphere), but this is more about the entertainment, as in most slashers. The murders are interesting and fun enough and there are also references to other movies (the most evident being the hockey mask). Despite all that, the film has a lot of weaknesses, the ending fizzles out completely and I don’t think I’ll remember anything about Alone in the Dark in a week. Three stars is enough. (13.08.2008)
