60 Seconds is exactly as dumb as you can expect from a brainless action flick from the turn of the millennium. Lots of testosterone, hot cars, a hard to get female element in the form of Angelina Jolie, whose spontaneous looks evokes the uninhibitedness of the late nineties, and a few almost mystical scenes of Nic Cage vs Shelby – or a car like any other. it's a pity that Dominic Sena kept silent for a good number of years after this film, because his visuals are fantastic, his music is even better, and thanks to that his have an action-packed pace and a spine-tingling spirit. This one was missing a more meaningful screenplay and sometimes it could use more logic (see Memphis and his jump on the bridge), but it can be endured as a way to unwind. The soundtrack is badass, and thanks to it, you can forgive these cars for their many faults. ()
No script, just something to look at: nice cars, nice women, that's all. If that's enough for some people, that's fine, but I prefer a little more story. ()
It hasn't been true for a long time that a movie with Nic Cage equals a good movie, and the days when similar, honestly made action flicks were far more popular than a romantic couple of vampires are almost gone. 60 Seconds, however, has the advantage that it still belongs to the golden era of Cage's filmography, while also boasting a really honest, straightforward and no less entertaining execution, which basically lives up to its racing name, thanks to which everybody can gladly forgive the film for making national heroes out of expensive car thieves and for the flimsy script that is completely devoid of emotion and, unfortunately, without much flair. And on top of that, there's Angelina Jolie, who, even with her unconventional Nordic hairstyle, is so sexy that there's no better fuel for a ride of this quality. For me, better than the over-stylish first Fast and Furious. 75% ()
Maybe car fans will find something to like about this film, but I still don't believe they won’t get bored. It’s so bland! It isn’t fun, nor is it stupid enough to at least make you laugh. Just boring, despite the presence of the Cage-Jolie duo. ()
The original version is a few quality levels higher. But Sena’s isn’t a complete waste of time either. It’s solidly done average filmmaking that finds no support in the screenplay and so has to rely solely on the dumb things the actors do. Due to its length, Gone in 60 Seconds doesn’t have its foot full on the gas, but the two hours spend in its company goes by fairly quickly in the end. ()
