The Babysitter: Killer Queen

The sequel to The Babysitter lacks any logic but it was probably necessary to play a little with the screenplay so that the second movie would make at least some sense. But again, it is a lot of fun even though the firmly set pattern repeats itself. Even the director realized that this kind of movie requires more musical numbers than it had in the first movie. But it is a pity that before there is at least some action, the movie is really boring. But it is still sufficient as a chill-out movie. Nevertheless, compared to the first movie it is just half way there. (24.09.2020)

What initially seemed a pointless sequel is finally a worthy successor to the entertaining first film, and I certainly didn't expect that after the lackluster trailer. The story takes place two years after the first one, the characters have grown up and the protagonist is experiencing a new nightmare, High School and the demons of the past, and it's a fun ride with a twist! In teen horror, Babysitter 2 is one of the best things to have come out this year, and I suspect the most hyped movie from the US this year didn't come out either. I was rolling on the floor with laughter in places, and the iconic lines and references to Terminator, Deliverance, Hannibal Lecter, Mortal Kombat, Wakanda and the Jordan Peele era need to be set in stone! The cadence of humour is interspersed with proper gore (nothing beats the antler scene this year!) and you'll be delighted by the new likeable characters or the aptly chosen selection of trendy songs. Yes, it's silly, but it doesn't take itself seriously. The film knows how to make fun of itself and there are so many clever and innovative ideas where McG makes his commitment to the film genre clear. There's a nice surprise in the finale and one interesting twist. The breakout film of the year! For every great idea there are three illogical misfires that completely miss the mark; for a few good-hearted jokes, you have to endure a substantial batch of completely off base (the parents) or repeated "sound bites" (also the parents). In short, a sequel that rushes forward at an even more frantic pace than the original and does so with unexpected twists – only to deny key characters any development while creating it, but surprisingly even the end of the first installment as part of creating the premise. It is incredibly frustrating to see how the main character's family, friends, and the authorities urge him to be normal, even though the things they are talking about have clearly happened. The Babysitter: Killer Queen has humor in it, with an incredibly likable cast of actors, and Jenna Ortega shines in it. However, there were so many blows to the face of logic that the door to a sequel simply has to remain closed. (05.12.2020)

Der Film entspricht eigentlich genau meinen Erwartungen, was keinesfalls als Kritik gemeint ist. Größer, verrückter, witziger und blutiger (bzw. marmeladiger, limonadiger und geysirmäßiger), mehr sexy und am Ende auch ziemlich überraschend, aber gleichzeitig mit einer logischen Pointe. Wenn Ihnen der erste Teil gefallen hat, werden Sie zufrieden sein. Wenn dies nicht der Fall ist, dann nehme ich an, dass Sie sich diesen Film nicht ansehen werden. Ich habe die Fortsetzung von The Babysitter nur wenige Augenblicke nach dem ersten Film gesehen, was seine Vor- und Nachteile hatte. Ich musste mich nicht an die Handlung erinnern und mir fielen viele Anspielungen auf den vorherige Teil auf - das war der Nachteil: Es ist nicht nur ein Killerfilm, sondern auch eine totale Kopie des ersten, was die Handlung nur noch absurder macht und an mehr als einer Stelle gegen die Logik des Vorgängers verstößt. Jenna Ortega war gut, aber dass sie mitspielte, war nicht hilfreich, während Emily Alyn Lind geradezu komisch war. Das Ende des Films war nur noch ein sauer gewordenes Sahnehäubchen auf dieser bizarren, blutigen Torte. (12.09.2023)

The first installment was quite a passable black comedy slasher movie. However, in the sequel, the creators seemed to have forgotten the concept of "less is more" in terms of profanity. If I were to express my true feelings about this movie, I'd have to stoop to the level of language used in it, and frankly, I'd rather not. So, let's sum it up. The script was weak, the effects in some scenes were laughably bad (like Bambi's death), and the characters were mostly unlikable. To top it all off, the film was definitively ruined by an incredibly stupid ending that left me scratching my head. It's a shame I don't believe in Satan because I'd gladly send the writer straight to hell's boiler. (21.03.2022)
