If it were filmed in today's time, it might be even better in the sense that it would be more intense, which wouldn't bother the movie at all. On the other hand, it is sometimes quite intense even for its time, which should be credited to its advantage. In addition, the lead actress is simply mesmerizing, both in her acting and in her appearance. It's a film that is clear from the start that it cannot end well.
