Ein abgelegener Landsitz, ein Safe voller Geld und ein altes Ehepaar, das nicht zu Hause ist: perfekte Voraussetzungen für einen Einbruch, findet das Gaunertrio Nathan, Gaz und Terry. Doch der Tresor lässt sich nicht so leicht knacken wie erhofft. Die drei beschließen, den betagten Hausbesitzern aufzulauern, um sie zur Herausgabe der Zahlenkombination zu zwingen. Nathans Freundin Mary, die den Jungs nur widerwillig ins Haus gefolgt ist, hat jedoch kein gutes Gefühl bei der Sache. Als der Arzt und seine Ehefrau zurückkehren, werden sie von den Einbrechern überrascht – doch die hilflos wirkenden Alten wissen sich durchaus zu wehren und verstehen es hervorragend, den Eindringlingen das Leben zur Hölle zu machen. The British movie The Owners is a great play in a small space where the viewer cannot be sure of anything, and anything could happen. I, for one, was expecting a monster to appear towards the end as the gates of hell might well have opened, and for a relatively small release, it has some great performances. That means this movie manages to be both extremely poignant and entertaining all the way through.

A likeable home invasion horror film that doesn't bring anything new to the genre and is a blatant rip-off of the better known Don't Breathe, but it has good craftsmanship. A group of friends break into an apartment to steal money, but the owners return unexpectedly early and soon the tables are turned, as the homeowners are psychopath senior citizens. It's suspenseful, nicely shot, unexpectedly gritty at times, and has a decent twist at the end. An inoffensive and watchable affair on a theme that never gets old. Story**, Action***, Humor>No, Violence***, Entertainment****, Music***, Visuals****, Atmosphere***, Suspense***. 6/10.
