(Sony Channel)

Köchin gesucht (1989) (S01E01)

Englisch When I had already seen the last episode, it was about time for me to also watch the first one. This series set a high level right from the beginning, which only shows how good direction was chosen, but also that the source material is simply so good that it can be extremely well developed. The television adaptation doesn't bother at all, nor does the time in which the plot takes place, because it all works together. Moreover, Poirot is truly a unique character. ()

Poirot riecht den Braten (1989) (S01E02)

Englisch Detective stories are wonderful because what may appear one way at first glance is actually completely different, and perhaps even more different, as there can be multiple plot twists. "Murder in the Mews" is precisely such a case, because even though everything seems clear in the beginning, it turns out to be different in the end, only to become even more different afterwards. I enjoyed this, even though the plot may not be as intense. ()

Poirot und der Kidnapper (1989) (S01E03)

Englisch It is a bit weaker episode, but maybe only in the climax, which I kind of expected. However, the creators nicely revived the relationship between Poirot and Hastings, especially the episode with the car is absolutely fantastic. The tension of whether there will be a kidnapping or not, and why, is maintained excellently here. The finale is a bit weaker, but definitely not bad. ()

Vierundzwanzig Schwarzdrosseln (1989) (S01E04)

Englisch Identity exchange simply belongs to detective stories, that's clear. What I like about this one is that it's immediately clear from the beginning that such an exchange has taken place, but what's actually more interesting is the fact of who replaced the person in question and why. In this case, it works very well, and despite the slow pace, the story is sufficiently intriguing. ()

Tod im dritten Stock (1989) (S01E05)

Englisch It seems innocent at first, but then it develops into a very interesting detective case that I enjoyed from the beginning to the end. It's the kind of case where you simply have to know how everything happened and why, even though you basically don't have the opportunity to uncover the murderer's identity, just like Poirot did not in the play. Out of the first five parts, this one entertained me the most. ()

Urlaub auf Rhodos (1989) (S01E06)

Englisch As soon as we look towards the East, it's something that immediately interests me a little. Well, Greece isn't really the orient, but it still gives Poirot a completely new charge. In that environment, especially on the beach, he is very comical, even without faithful Hastings. Moreover, the detective case itself is excellent, mainly because its resolution really surprises. ()

Eine Tür fällt ins Schloss (1989) (S01E07)

Englisch And again Poirot in a very exotic environment, moreover on a ship and with great characters. David Suchet thoroughly enjoyed the final revelation, and so can the viewer, even if his girlfriend basically told him how it all is at the beginning. It had great logic, so I believed her. And she was right. Excellent episode. ()

Der unglaubliche Diebstahl der Bomberpläne (1989) (S01E08)

Englisch Hercule Poirot is entering higher circles, where there is already talk of war and the possibility of at least defeating Germany in the air. It is nice to see how Poirot does not belong among those people, but in reality, he is much more intelligent than all those industrialists and their arrogant wives. Nevertheless, this episode did not captivate me that much. ()

Die Abenteuer des Kreuzkönigs (1989) (S01E09)

Englisch I enjoy stories from behind the scenes of the film industry, also because they are often very imaginative. This was successfully maintained even with Agatha and her Poirot in this story, which is excellently executed, although the ending itself may be somewhat disappointing. The scenes in the studio are sometimes quite clichéd, but still amusing. ()

Der Traum (1989) (S01E10)

Englisch Some people may deserve some punishment for how they behave, but still, death is a punishment that not everyone considers acceptable. Hercule Poirot never accepts murder, which he clearly shows, so he investigates the murder of a factory owner who treated his employees like dirt. The great variation with the substitution and how the crime is brilliantly reconstructed. ()

Das Haus auf der Klippe (1990) (S02E01)

Englisch The film was originally divided into two parts, but you will enjoy it better as a whole. Poirot and Hastings understand each other well again, but the main focus is on the story, which has a great screenplay. It twists and unravels in a way that you will truly only know how it all is and was at the end. And yet, it fits together perfectly and the story is sufficiently suspenseful. ()

Erpressung und andere Kleinigkeiten (1990) (S02E02)

Englisch From the beginning, it was somewhat clear who would actually be the villain, but how the whole story unfolded is just interesting enough to captivate and make one endure until the end. The chase in the museum is quite entertaining, and I must say that I really like how the setting constantly changes in the series. It suits Poirot well. ()

Die verschollene Silbermine (1990) (S02E03)

Englisch And something a little exotic again. This time a bit of Asia. It's nice how Poirot manages to get everywhere, even without moving from his place. In this episode, it's great how it's linked to the game of Monopoly, which Hastings and Poirot enjoy together. The murderer's revelation is once again very effective, especially thanks to the interesting setting. ()

Das Rätsel von Cornwall (1990) (S02E04)

Englisch The setting of a small town is fully utilized for the needs of the short story, and furthermore, the surroundings are terribly beautiful. But I also mean the people and how they look at a person and his crime, even if it's unproven. Hercule Poirot once again displays a slightly rough sense of humor, which, however, works, and we thereby receive an original solution to the crime. ()

Mord ohne Leiche (1990) (S02E05)

Englisch When a good detective story is combined with a great comedic twist, which revolves around a bet this time, where Poirot must solve a case without leaving the house, a great story is created that entertains you, and even if you figure out the twist earlier, you will still enjoy the jokes and magical tricks. Overall, it is excellently combined. ()

Doppelte Sünde (1990) (S02E06)

Englisch I was a little disappointed that it was somewhat easier and I figured out the point quite early, but that definitely doesn't mean that this episode didn't entertain me. On the contrary, there is a great moment between Poirot and Japp, which the latter doesn't even know about. This was done very well, just like Poirot's indifference. Even the background is perfect. ()

Mord im Mietpreis inbegriffen (1990) (S02E07)

Englisch From the beginning, it is clear what note this episode will play on. It is very comedic, and that is also in the sense that there are beautiful caricatures, especially the FBI agent is simply exemplary. But Poirot also excels in how funny he is, because just the opening scene at the cinema says a lot about him. The story is good too, which is an excellent and functional intertwining of events. ()

Die Augen des chinesischen Gottes (1990) (S02E09)

Englisch It's a bit cluttered piece and in the end, there might be a slight disappointment because it's actually a story about nothing, which is a shame as it's not perfectly concluded. I was still expecting that there would be something little there. The truth, however, remains that even so, it is quite good and it captivates with how people can sometimes manipulate themselves. ()

Eine Familie steht unter Verdacht (1990) (S03E01)

Englisch It is certainly one of the best Poirot stories, maybe also because it is where Poirot and Hastings start their joint work. It works great in the beginning, until Poirot arrives, but once the murder happens and he appears on the scene, it's just wonderful. You enjoy his charisma, but also how he manages to solve the case in the end. Beautifully twisted, when you really don't know until the very last moment. ()

Edle Düfte (1991) (S03E02)

Englisch An excellent story, which shows how important it is in detective work for a person, that is the detective, to identify all the clues and notice everything. Hercule demonstrates this with great attention to detail, and he remains skillful and witty. It's really difficult to imagine Poirot with anyone other than David Suchet, who gave him charm and magic.
