Sam (Fran Kranz aus Cabin in the Woods) ist Betreuer des Sommercamps ,,Clear Vista" an einem einsam gelegenen See. Was kann da schon schief gehen? Eine ganze Menge wie der gut informierte Slasher-Fan bereits vermutet. Prompt taucht ein maskierter Killer auf und massakriert die Teamleiter. Doch Sam weiß, wo er Hilfe bekommt! Seine beste Freundin Chuck (Alyson Hannigan aus American Pie, How i met your Mother und Buffy) ist schließlich Verkäuferin in einer gut sortierten Videothek und kennt sämtliche Klischees des Slasher-Genres. Sie beginnt, Sam Stück für Stück durch das blutige Camp-Inferno zu lotsen. (Indeed Film)

There is nothing like watching a horror movie that doesn’t take itself seriously and benefits from this fact as much as possible. Here, they passed with flying colors. A stylish small-scale horror film, which makes fun of everything and does it pretty well. Only Alyson Hannigan didn’t look like a slag in HIMYM (How I met Your Mother), but she portrayed the horror professional brilliantly. Was it intention or her age?

Hier wird versucht, Humor aus den Klischees der Camp-Slasher-Filme zu ziehen, ähnlich wie bei The Final Girls, aber das funktioniert genauso schrecklich - der Film funktioniert weder als Horror noch als Komödie. Die meiste Zeit ist es einfach nur nervig. Eine bessere Bewertung vergebe ich nur dank You Might Be the Killer, weil die Macher zumindest ein bisschen Blut gezeigt haben im Gegensatz zu den Machern von The Final Girls, die eine heuchlerische PG-13-Haltung eingenommen haben. In jedem Fall ist die Tatsache, dass dieser Film am Film Festival erst in der Mitternachtszeit gezeigt wurde, obwohl er zu der Zeit schon seit sieben Monaten im Netz zur Verfügung stand, recht traurig und sagt auch vieles darüber aus.

The American film You Might Be the Killer manages to grab your attention at first glance, you'll be entertained by how slightly different it is, and how it is an original take on a classic. It soon becomes clear where the problems lie, and then the best you get is really a pretty standard slasher film, which is maybe a bit long in places and shows that a good idea could not be turned into a great film. But a good film? Yes.
