Wo die Erde bebt

Ich fühlte mich als ob ich einen Film nach dem Drehbuch von Haruki Murakami angeschaut hätte. Und wichtig zu sagen, dass ich die ganze Zeit überlegt hatte, ob daran Japan an sich schuld ist oder ob es gewollt war die Geschichte im Geiste des magischen Realismus zu erzählen. Das Problem war aber, dass es keine richtige Pointe hatte. Schrecklich lange wusste ich nicht genau, was in dem Film los war. Der einziger Grund, warum ich den Film guckte und bis zum Schluss schaffte, war schließlich Alicia Vikander, die war (und ist) VOLLKOMMEN… Plus ihr Japanisch! (21.05.2020)

A decent thriller mystery about a love triangle set in 1980s Tokyo with Alicia Vikander perfect as always. The film is more of a romantic thriller, so I'm guessing it will appeal more to a female audience, but I wasn't bored either, though the pace is slower. Alicia Vikander is interrogated at a police station, and the story is told in long flashbacks, and while it doesn't completely pull off and the film doesn't offer any standout scenes, it works quite well thanks to the good actors, the decent music, the uncertain atmosphere and the well-dosed psychology. 6/10 (16.11.2019)

There were plenty of hints that this would be a great mystery drama, but in the end, none of them came through. The draw of cultural differences feels false, the stiff triangle is resolved in a single scene, and at the climax, I felt like Wash Westmoreland was so frustrated with the script that he ended it in the most banal way possible. It's a pity, considering that Alicia Vikander and Riley Keough are both fascinating on the exact emotional level I would expect from them, and they can brilliantly play out the simplest innuendo into madness. The Sixth Sense meets Lost in Translation meets Basic Instinct. A concoction of several genres absolutely devoid of any drive or creative DNA. Vikander may deliver her usual above-par performance, but the long macros, romantic neon and ethereal music do not make for an interesting film. The attempt at a thought-provoking mystery thriller didn't really work. How this could have come from a Scott Free production is a great mystery. (19.06.2020)

If this film hits the mark (you need to be in the mood for something slower, that's all about the characters and what looks beautiful, you should not be looking for a thriller full of surprises), you'll be satisfied. I was very impressed by the ending, and it's "just" a quiet conversation between two people. Alicia Vikander is great. (23.11.2019)

Filmchallenge in Quarantäne - Lieblingsschauspielerinnen, Alicia Vikander. Aus Alicia Vikander strömt durchdringende Schönheit, dabei hätte wohl niemand in ihr eine Schwedin vermutet?! Ich wage zu behaupten, dass sich neunzig Prozent der Menschen unter einer sexy Schwedin eine blauäugige Blondine vorstellen und keineswegs eine schmale braunäugige Dunkelhaarige. Und sie hat auch eine gewisse Art von Dunkelheit an sich, die in Kombination mit ihrer sexy Stimme eine aufregende, fast verstörte und gefährliche Femme fatale aus ihr machen, was schon die Macher der geliebten nutzten. Im Falle dieses Streifens hatte ich die ganze Zeit über das Gefühl einer seltsamen, einzigartigen und tragisch gestimmten Atmosphäre, die einen erstickt und ihm langsam den Sauerstoff entzieht, was für japanische Romane oder Filme typisch ist. Ich war in ständiger Spannung und einer spezifischen Stimmung, wo ich nicht wusste, ob mir dieser Film eigentlich gefällt oder nicht. Was ich jedoch sicher weiß, ist, dass mir Alicia wieder sehr gefallen hat, physisch, durch ihren Ausdruck, ihre Stimme, ihre schauspielerische Auffassung, sie ist toll. (21.05.2020)
