Kyle Barnes war scheinbar sein Leben lang von besessenen Menschen umgeben. In der kleinen Stadt Rome lebt er allein und abgeschieden im verwahrlosten Haus seiner Mutter. Durch Zufall erfährt er im Supermarkt von dem Jungen Joshua, der von Reverend Anderson exorziert wird. Als er sich entschließt, den Reverend bei dem Exorzismus zu unterstützen, holt ihn seine traumatische Vergangenheit wieder ein. Der Dämon, von dem Joshua besessen ist, scheint Kyle zu kennen. Das veranlasst ihn dazu, sich dem Bösen zu stellen, das seine Vergangenheit beeinflusst hat, bevor es weiterhin sein Leben zerstört. Denn die Beziehung zu seiner Familie hat in der Vergangenheit stark darunter leiden müssen, und das Böse ist der Grund dafür, weshalb er nicht bei seiner Familie leben kann. (ZDFneo)

S01E01 70 %, S01E02 60 %. In the first episode, Wingard was sufficiently alluring, but the second episode, with someone else behind the wheel, was a step backwards.

The adapted original is based on "real" exorcist horror movies of the 70´s, and the series adaptation seems to be based on the same that is, the characters (great cast of Glenister and Fugit and perfect setting in the middle of nowhere where everyone knows each other) and the captivating, chilling atmosphere of tangible concern. On top of that it´s packed with Ross's (anti) musical accompaniment. So far, the introduction rather promises big things than delivers them but it still has the right atmosphere, uncompromisingness and undeniable genre potential. So, there´s a lot to be excited about. That´s for sure.
