Nach 10 Jahren ist er zurückgekehrt und mit ihm das Grauen. Dr. Loomis – Donald Pleasence – der aus seinem ersten Erlebnis mit Michael Myers gelernt hat, kann sich vorstellen was er plant: Er will seine einzige noch lebende Verwandte – seine Nichte Jamie – töten. Die Schöpfer haben uns endlich Myers zurückgebracht und versuchen, das Beste aus seiner vorherigen Abwesenheit herauszuholen. Michael hier erinnert eher an eine unaufhaltsame Mordmaschine als nur einen Psychopathen. Er tötet fast im Vorbeigehen, aber ihn selbst zu töten ist unmöglich. Er tötet etwa 17 Menschen + 2 Hunde, was den Rekord für die meisten Todesfälle in der gesamten Serie bedeutet. Er bewegt sich unglaublich schnell von einem Ort zum anderen und findet sein Opfer immer, egal wo es sich versteckt. Und wie ist es überhaupt möglich, dass er wieder Augen hat, nachdem sie ihm Dr. Loomis abgeschossen hat? Aber ich muss aufhören, mich in Details zu verlieren, denn mit der Rückkehr von Myers bin ich wirklich zufrieden. Schließlich bin ich einer der Leidtragenden, die zuerst Teil vier und fünf gesehen haben und dann erst Teil eins und zwei, deshalb habe ich eine so enge Beziehung zu diesem Film.

"Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers" is a good slasher and still manages to successfully continue the series. From this point, it was still possible to launch quite good movies, but we will see. It already seems a bit like the theme of Michael Myers is exhausted and he doesn't have many people left to murder, nor any other way to captivate the viewers. However, it continues to show that with good characters, it is still possible to make a good slasher for the third time.

The fourth Halloween is not a bad horror film, it’s tense, a little scary and it’s decent fun for slasher fans, but it doesn’t compare to Carpenter’s brilliant first instalment, which was overflowing with terrifying atmosphere and with a Michael Myers who had a truly evil aura. The Return of Michael Myers doesn’t lack atmosphere, but it feels more like hixploitation, and I was expecting Leatherface to jump from around a corner instead of Mike with his snow-white mask, this time utterly devoid of any aura. It’s not bad, the ending was a very pleasant surprise, in fact, but I’m not giving it a fourth star.

The craftsmanship is very good, although the basic procedures are copied from the first two films. The same thing happens with the subject matter itself. That wouldn't matter so much if the entire film didn't ride the wave of screenwriting dementia of the highest caliber that not only puts Michael back in the game in the most embarrassing way but also has him going after his own niece. Only the brisk pace and the final point work, whilst the rest is a perfect example of how the series is running out of steam.
