Die Gärtnerei, die Schorsch Kempter mit seiner Frau Monika führt, steht kurz vor dem finanziellen Ruin. Als auch noch sein geliebtes Propeller-Flugzeug gepfändet werden soll, macht Schorsch seinen Jugendtraum wahr und fliegt mit dem Doppeldecker in Richtung Nordkap, um die Polarlichter zu sehen. Bei seinem ersten Zwischenstopp lernt er die lebenshungrige Adeligentochter Philomena kennen, die sich als blinder Passagier bei ihm einnistet und ihn fortan auf seiner Odyssee quer durch die Lüfte Deutschlands begleitet.
