Bollywood this is not. With co-director Nikon, Indian enfant terrible Q delivers an extreme twist on the horror genre that initially follows the trajectory of a typical slasher flick, tracking four libidinous teenagers who are looking to score on a double date. When no hotel will take them, they break into a shopping mall and are just getting down to it when an old woman interrupts them and invites them to play a game of dice. Mesmerized, the kids join in, unaware they are playing with one of a group of man-eating immortals who brought down an ancient curse on themselves through their own curiosity. They will soon encounter a supernatural bloodbath that's definitely not for the faint of heart, but the directors' fiercely intelligent filmmaking style takes the story beyond mere gore into the transgressive territory explored in Q's widely praised Gandu (DFF34).
