Miracle Workers - Dark Ages

A completely different concept, period and overall message, only the main actors and the style of humour remained the same. And it’s not bad at all. Shitshoveler's daughter wants to study and go to the world, and the king's unlucky son doesn't want to kill people as often as his daddy does. The contemporary humor set in the dark ages sometimes works and sometimes it grates. The goat trial is probably the best of the bunch. (11.02.2023)

Völlig anders als die erste Serie. Es sind wirklich nur die Schauspieler*innen und einer von den Drehbuchautoren geblieben, sonst hat sich eigentlich fast alles verändert. Manches ist schlimmer geworden. Es stieg z. B. die Anzahl der Folgen, was aber nur dazu führte, dass die Geschichte, die schon so nicht besonders toll ist, dünner wurde. Dark Ages ist eine wirklich lange Sketch-Reihe, die sich selbst irgendwo in der Mitte der Serie findet und sich dessen bewusst wird, was sie sagen möchte. Sehr viele Witze sind fantastisch, manche sind nicht so gelungen… Es ist logisch. Dank der vernünftigen Länge, der tollen Geraldine Viswanathan, Steve Buscemi und Daniel Radcliffe hatte ich aber auch in den nicht so gut gelungenen Momenten Spaß. (17.04.2020)

Apart from the cast, the second season had nothing in common with the first (which makes the shared title a bit of a mystery). By that, I mean the story, which shifted from heavenly heights to the mud of a medieval village. Instead of heavenly realms, we got mud that's best not to dig into, and instead of celestial beings, we got subjects who seemed to have about as much say in their fate as livestock; all in all, it was quite a steep descent, but in terms of quality, it wasn't all that bad. It's still just easy entertainment, and the creators didn't aim for anything grander. Even though the humor was noticeably weaker compared to the previous season, each episode had a few moments that genuinely tickled my funny bone. It wasn't anywhere near Blackadder, but it didn't bore me either. / Lesson learned: Feel like your job is beneath you? Rise above it. (19.04.2022)
