Ever since the drone debacle, it's clear that German politicians and military are in favour of unmanned aircraft. The question is whether combat drones should be flying and shooting for Germany. Proponents push the fact that they are efficient, inexpensive, and safe for the drone pilots. Their opponents are of the opinion that they are militarily superfluous, as well as questionable from a legal and ethical standpoint.
The documentary examines what the actual implications are of a drone war at a distance. For the first time, an eyewitness reports how a German citizen in Pakistan was killed by a drone.
The US drone war has already claimed thousands of victims. Human rights lawyer, Shahzad Akbar, is representing over a hundred civilian victims of drones, including the first female victim. The film tells her story, as well as that of a distraught perpetrator - one of the American drone pilots.
The extensively researched film provides insight into the lucrative drone business, a business from which German armaments companies also want to profit. And it shows simulations by the Ministry of Defence, which considers combat drones to be a weapon of the future. (Verleiher-Text)
