Jennifer Garner ('Daredevil', 'Alias') verliert ihre Familie bei einem brutalen Überfall. Trotz ihrer Zeugenaussage werden die Täter freigesprochen. Nach fünfjährigem, hartem Training nimmt sie Rache an dem Drogenkartell, das das korrupte Justizsystem im Griff hat. Riley North muss mitansehen, wie ihr Mann und ihre kleine Tochter aus einem vorbeifahrenden Wagen erschossen werden und wird dabei selbst schwer verletzt. Aus dem Koma erwacht, identifiziert sie die Täter bei der Gegenüberstellung. Ihre Aussagen werden im Prozess jedoch ignoriert. Mit seiner Bande hat Drogenboss Diego Garcia Polizei und Justiz fest im Griff. Riley bereitet sich fünf Jahre lang vor, um einen gnadenlosen Rachefeldzug gegen die Mörder ihrer Familie zu eröffnen. Ein in modernen Trends eingepackter Revenge-"Seagal“-Film mit einer Rächerin. Mit einer Mutter, die nach fünf Jahren in Asien zu einem furchtlosen Assassin in einer mörderischen Drogengang wird. Wir erfahren nicht, wie sie eigentlich gefunden wurde oder wie sie so viel Glück haben konnte, dass bei ihr alles geklappt hat. Einfach wie in den 90ern, als der Parameter "cool“ reichte und keine Logik notwendig war. Die einzige logische Sache ist hier das Engagement vom Regisseur Pierre Morel, aber mit so einem Drehbuch ist es sowieso nutzlos.

Pierre Morel's weakest film, it's a wonder that after a three-year break he came up with a completely bland B-movie that seems to have fallen out of the 90s. Thankfully Jennifer Garner is hot and she's pretty pissed off the whole movie, so watching her for 102 minutes doesn't hurt at all, but action-wise there's not much to stand for and the story follows the same template. I wasn't bored, but that's not enough for Morel. 60%

Pierre Morel, a seasoned action director and master of gritty stories, directs a video game for schoolkids that might succeed on a rainy afternoon on TV. Jennifer Garner was supposed to be a sort of modern alternative to Charlize Theron from Atomic Blonde, but she's not even close. It's not that she doesn't look cool enough and kick some ass here and there, but they don't allow her to stand out like her rival. A waste of time even for die-hard action movie fans.

I like Jennifer Garner quite a bit, but it seems to me that she has once again stepped way out of line by accepting the lead role in this action flick with its impotent screenplay. Not even a seasoned director like Pierre Morel was able to improve on this completely uninteresting and boring story. (35%)
