Der betagte Druide Miraculix macht sich auf die Suche nach einem Nachfolger. Asterix und Obelix müssen verhindern, dass das Geheimnis des Zaubertranks ihres Dorfes nicht in die falschen Hände kommt. Der gallische Druide Dämonix hat mit den Römern nämlich einen hinterhältigen Pakt geschlossen. Als Miraculix zum ersten Mal in seinem Leben vom Baum fällt und sich dabei das Bein verstaucht, sieht er die Zeit gekommen, einen jungen Nachfolger zu finden. Mit Asterix und Obelix sucht er nach jemandem, dem er das Geheimnis des Zaubertranks anvertrauen kann. Der hinterhältige Dämonix setzt alles daran, um an die Formel des Wundermittels, das unbesiegbar macht, zu kommen. Und geht dabei sogar einen Pakt mit den Römern ein. (ORF)

A Gallic classics. Nicely colorful, traditionally fun and with a number of up-to-date jokes, typical for all Asterix and Obelix cartoons. As for me, I really enjoyed it. I even think that when I’ll accidently stumble upon this on TV, I’ll leave it on and enjoy it again. Just like most cartoons with this crazy duo, who were my favorite childhood companions.

Less inventive, less for the whole family and (un)fortunately without Ricchi and Poveri. In addition, the final 20 minutes are very un-Asterix-like and beholden to the overseas style of animation – Goscinny and Uderz didn't deserve that. This doesn’t mean that it’s bad. It’s not. It's still so good, funny and moving, and definitely one of the better of the Asterix adventures on screen.

It's not bad, but it lacks the darkness and edginess that used to characterize Asterix. The superhero battle seasoned with a final duel in the style of Power Rangers was a bit too much.

Schön. Seit über 50 Jahren gibt es nun schon Asterix-Humor in Comics und Filmen. Und es funktioniert immer noch. Der letzte Film, Asterix im Land der Götter, hat die Taufe von Asterix in 3D perfekt gemeistert, und so ist auch Asterix und das Geheimnis des Zaubertranks eine sichere Sache. Alles ist an seinem Platz, ein Dorf mit den Menschen, die wir so sehr lieben. Da sind Herr Obelix, der Hund Idefix, natürlich Asterix, der Druide Panoramix, ein Schmied, ein Fischer, ihre Frauen und nicht zuletzt ein großes künstlerisches Talent... Und dieses Mal eine dramatische Geschichte, die das größte Geheimnis von allen enthüllt. Es ist spannend, lustig, anspruchsvoll und perfekt für die ganze Familie. Die Kleinen mögen die einfacheren Gags, die Älteren schätzen die Nostalgie und die cleveren Spiele mit der Geschichte und den verschiedenen Arten von Animation.

The Mansions of the Gods is unfortunately a thing of the past, but Asterix remains confidently above-par. The plot around the search for the Druid’s successor is quite weak and very repetitive in the first half, but the ending fortunately brings the characters together in a humorous fashion and delivers several interesting twists and surprises. The animation is flawless and the theme song is great, but don’t expect much in terms of bold humour or social satire.

The Mansion of the Gods had great new animation, which wasn't missing this time either. Unfortunately, the creators did not provide a quality story to go with it. In the previous story, I was laughing practically the whole time. Here, there was considerably less humor, and the plot seemed all-too-familiar. Still above average but definitely weaker.
