Englisch Season 1 – 60% – The pilot almost shocked me with its fresh format, plot, humor, and Ed Westwick's acting renaissance. He perfectly portrays those arrogant guys who realize too late the consequences of their actions. But while I loved him in the role of Chuck Bass during the days of Gossip Girl because his flaws were understandable, here his Vincent Swan is really just annoying. He wants to be this confident idiot, he does everything wrong, and he feels (even within the context of comedy) offended that someone wants taxes, loyalty, or a regular job from him. I could forgive all of that at least a little bit until the it started ripping off The Wolf of Wall Street too much. Then you can exactly predict what will happen at the beginning and end of the next episode, and combined with the stupidity of both Swan's colleagues, these windows become neither Gold nor White or any other kind. Season 2 – 60% – Men are still portrayed as animals, idiots, or fools in this world, while wives, partners, or colleagues are portrayed as clever heroines who know how to handle every situation and win any argument, even when they are not right at all. So, in terms of credibility, everything is fine. It's a pity that when the pace picked up and the script managed to create a series of (sometimes somewhat banal, but occasionally pleasantly biting) gags even from seemingly trivial situations, it did not also improve the meaningfulness of the story as a whole, which exceeds the limit of what I can tolerate in a vulgar suburb with its mix of gangsters, bizarre supporting characters, and secret societies. Not to mention that the only character that I can/want to root for is the newcomer Joanne, played by the enchanting Rachel Shenton. ()
