Endstation Sehnsucht

"Endstation Sehnsucht" ist eines der berühmtesten Stücke von Tennessee Williams. Ich habe den Aufstieg des jungen Brando mehrmals erlebt und kann nur den Posten aus dem US-Nachkriegsfilm abhaken, denn das hier ist kein Juwel. Aber wenn ich mehr über Vivien Leighs Karriere nachdenke, kann ich mit Freude feststellen, dass sie ihr ganzes Leben mit der Schauspielerei verbracht hat, nur um endgültig Blanche DuBois zu werden, denn alle ihre frechen Heldinnen scheinen eine Kopie dieses verzweifelten Geschöpfes zu sein. I have a problem with the fact that I simply don't like the approach of this story, even though the plot itself and its development are good. It is a story with affected characters, whether in the sense of Blanche or in the sense of Stanley. However, what cannot be taken away from the film adaptation are the performances, which are truly dominated by the great Marlon Brando. It is a wonderful comparison of acting styles, from which Brando emerges as the clear king. His lack of an Oscar is simply a result of the system's and the whole institution of the Oscars' shamefulness. (26.10.2014)

The movie adaptation of the American playwright Tennessee Williams' play of the same name, A Streetcar Named Desire, was an extraordinary critical and audience success in its day, and I think it still has something to say to today's audiences. I especially praise the riveting second act and the great performances from the central four, with Marlon Brando literally mesmerizing me. Not only did he do incredibly well, but he also demonstrated his undeniable acting talent. He portrayed the character of Stanley Kowalski, an explosive, rude and uncouth man, so convincingly that it gives you chills. (85%) (07.09.2022)
