The story of Jimmy Boyle (David Hayman) - one of Scotland's most notorious criminals. In the late 1970s the rights to John Mackenzie's A Sense of Freedom were acquired from STV by HandMade Films. The film was then cropped and re-dubbed in the hope of a more universal theatrical release. This inferior cut then became the only available version, and this remained the case until 2015, when the original was finally unearthed. (Edinburgh International Film Festival)
