The Evil Ones - Die Verfluchten

The trailer made me fear that this would be not much more than a shameless rip-off of Evil Dead, where the filmmakers, in their incompetence and lack of creativity would try to milk the name of a well known brand. To my surprise, that’s not where problem is – though the inspiration certainly is there, the film does bring some ideas of its own that are not totally devoid of interest. The problem is in two other tragedies. The first tragedy is the script, who was written by someone who really doesn’t know how to write. The way It executes the plot twists is terribly predictable, it also is utterly unable to exploit those interesting elements it brings and, on top of that, it forces the characters to utter incredibly artificial sounding lines. It looks as if Alexander Babaev had spent his life in isolation without ever having the chance to hear how normal people talk. The way you wrote it, Alexander, certainly not. And the second tragedy are the actors, who are unusually awful, even for the standards of a B-movie. (11.02.2017)
