Die Hölle von Korea

I really don't mind that instead of a view of the surrounding countryside, soldiers from the guard tower are looking directly at the monochrome gray wall of a studio, or that the North Korean tank is (according to trivia) made of plywood... On the contrary, if the film was really low-budget and quickly made, its quality is absolutely sufficient and the viewer will also see thrilling film scenes. The problem lies with the alleged positives of the film, which are supposed to touch on the brave raising of burning questions by the former US Army, or rather the whole society. "Brave anti-racist comments"? That's a good joke. On the contrary! It is precisely during those moments that I have come to realize that the film is from the 50s - back then, ideological purity ruled both in the East and the West. First of all, whoever asks those questions is a treacherous, unscrupulous, and physically repulsive North Korean communist officer who is just trying to dismantle our American infantry. Secondly, even the answer to these questions is soaked in ideology: well, we must wait, it will be fixed eventually (heaven forbid we do something about it ourselves!). I won't even mention that the North Korean Reds, of course, dress in civilian clothes so they can sneakily shoot unsuspecting Americans, etc. That can be expected from war films. Still, I'll give it 3 stars because we are on a movie database. (31.12.2013)
