Bruce Nolan ist Fernsehreporter und mit seinem Leben ständig unzufrieden, obwohl er einen guten Job und eine bezaubernde Freundin hat. Am Ende eines völlig verkorksten Tages lässt Bruce seiner Wut freien Lauf und gibt Gott die Schuld an allem! Gott antwortet und überträgt Bruce für eine Woche seinen Job - göttliche Kräfte inklusive. Allerdings nutzt Bruce seine neu gewonnenen Kräfte nicht gerade im Sinne des Erfinders und bemerkt schon bald, dass der Job als Herrscher über das Universum auch seine Probleme mit sich bringt. In der ersten Hälfte der Komödie Bruce Allmächtig findet man ein paar gute Witze und ein paar tolle Auftritte von Jim Carrey. Die zweite Hälfte ist aber nur eine weitere falsche und sentimentale Moralgeschichte für den naiven US-amerikanischen Mainstream.

If it weren't so family oriented and if there were more humor, it could have been a really funny movie. Like this it is for everyone, but ultimately for no one. But even in this politically correct form, it's good fun with some great gags and the great Carrey/Freeman duo. It’s just that the potential could have been exploited a little more, or a lot more.

The first half is fast-paced, funny and entertaining, I had a great time. But from the moment Bruce starts dealing with his emotional issues, the whole movie goes to hell. In the second half the screenwriter seems to have run out of ideas, the plot moves forward at a snail's pace and Bruce's clarification of his relationship with his partner is almost unbearable due to the level of sentimentality. But looking at the fantastic box office, I guess that's exactly what Americans want. Nothing for me. Oh, and one more thing, Jennifer Aniston, recently named The World's No.1 Celebrity, is a terrible actress.
