Rom 1944 Hunger und Angst beherrschen die Stadt. Razzien, Verhaftungen und Folter durch die SS sind an der Tagesordnung. Mit gnadenloser Härte verfolgen die Faschisten jeden kleinsten Widerstand gegen die Deutschen. Und trotz allem steht für Pina ein großer Tag bevor. Morgen wird sie ihren Verlobten Francesco heiraten. Doch der heimliche Widerständler Francesco wird am Hochzeitsmorgen von der SS verhaftet. Wahnsinnig vor Angst läuft Pina ihm hinterher und wird erschossen. I didn't even want to admit it, but neorealism has something to it. The camera that captures the events here is incredibly natural and does not shy away from moments that still have something to say even after so many years. Especially because they are very emotional moments. The ending offers several of them, but it's worth watching the film not just because of it. Italy has made a comeback. Especially in terms of movies.

Unfortunately, I understand the message of the movie, but I didn't manage to penetrate into it. Empty dialogues and images alternate with captivating and suspenseful scenes, which result in strongly conflicting feelings after watching. It is unfair to give a percentage rating to a film that aimed to "show," but for me, this time it is only better than 50%. If I have the opportunity, I will gladly give it a second chance, but for now, I don't find a common language with Rossellini.
