Pale Blue Dot is the name of a photo taken by the Voyager 1 probe in 1990 as it was leaving the solar system after completion of its mission. It shows the Earth from a record distance of six billion kilometres as a tiny bright spot about the size of one‑ tenth of a pixel surrounded by the vast space of the universe. The animation in this short film is accompanied by a commentary by Carl Sagan, the acclaimed astronomer and astrophysicist, at whose request NASA commissioned the photo. Sagan's narration highlights the fact that even though humans are convinced of their enormous importance, all their history takes place on a seemingly tiny spot. It is based on his book Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space where he analyses the entire phenomenon in more detail. (Academia Film Olomouc)
