Sois belle et tais-toi !

"Be beautiful and keep quiet". That is the title of this documentary in which Delphine Seyrig, the leading actress in the masterpiece by Chantal Akerman, Jeanne Dielman, 23, Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles, and of titles such as L'année dernière à Marienbad, convenes (and not in a coven) a select group of actresses. It is well known that a great number of the female roles written in the history of cinema are stereotyped and flat. But, let's not forget, those were played by women of flesh and blood with a critical sense. Jane Fonda, Maria Schneider, Juliet Berto, Anne Wiazemsky, Ellen Burstyn and many others offer a forceful (and even today rarely discussed) point of view about the legendary films in which they acted.
