Charlotte und Sam wollen sich nach 40 Jahren Ehe trennen. Bevor ihre erwachsenen Kinder davon erfahren, wünscht sich Charlotte einmal noch ein perfektes Weihnachtsfest mit der ganzen Familie. Aber die Kinder haben auch Geheimnisse: Eleanor organisiert sich kurzerhand am Flughafen einen Verlobten, um nicht als Single zu erscheinen. Der alleinerziehende Hank kämpft mit seinen pubertierenden Kindern und hat seinen Job verloren. Und Emma wird beim Diebstahl des perfekten Geschenkes festgenommen. Considered how many A movie actors they managed to put into this film, this Christmas dramedy is quite bad. It’s just a story about one dysfunctional family, where several storylines are brought together at the Christmas table. The problem is that all those characters’ problems are just boring. Everything is supposed to be mitigated by the Christmas atmosphere, but in a movie like this it won’t get you over the moon. No matter how many candles do you light in an attempt to bring in some Christmas cheer, the characters won’t become less annoying.

I really liked the romantic storyline between Olivia Wilde and Jake Lacy, which was very well crafted and even better acted. The other stories annoyed me a bit at times, but I was pleased with the positive vibe of the whole film, which I can't imagine Christmas time without. (65%)
