Spinning Gold belongs to a series of modern music biopics that go back to the 70s. The main band here are the Kissacs, starring Neil Bogart and the record company Casablanca. It's all very stylized, with Bogart's descendants involved in the film, so it definitely can't offer anything other than a fairytale. When you look at it all around, I would much prefer a separate biography of Donna Summer, because the story of a black American woman who became the queen of disco after a German tour of the musical Hair seemed downright brilliant to me. But while the real Donna was tall and slim, in this film she is small and curvy.
