London, in den 1970ern. Die kratzbürstige, schrullige Mary Shepherd lebt als betagte Obdachlose in einem klapprigen Lieferwagen. Als sie mit ihrem Van die Straßen von Camden Town verlassen muss, bietet ihr der benachbarte Dramatiker Alan Bennett an, vorübergehend in seiner Auffahrt zu parken. Statt der vereinbarten drei Wochen bleibt die kauzige, alte Dame 15 Jahre, in denen sie in das gepflegte Viertel Schwung und Leben bringt. (ORF)

Maggie Smith played the role of a granny from a well-known British play. A granny who smells like a spoiled egg and swears like a sailor. A granny who pushes her way in front of the house of the most boring writer under the sun. And since Alex Jennings doesn’t hide it at all, the whole movie goes on is a similar fashion. If it weren’t for Maggie and the English locations, it would be even worse than it is.

This is a concert by Maggie Smith, who shows that it is possible to be a great actress at any age, you just need a good role. This role is good, but overall the movie falls behind a bit and I couldn't get into it for most of the running time. Especially as a comedy, it works kind of strangely and definitely may not captivate you.
