A Million Miles Away

Eavesdropping on bedroom conversations of teenage girls as they forge bonds over absent parents and unworthy friends, the film explores melancholy as a survival strategy in the American Mid-West before it culminates in a breathtaking school choir rendition of Judas Priest's 1980s heavy metal anthem "You've Got Another Thing Comin'. The choir's female conductor is on the verge of a nervous breakdown and just like her girls she undergoes a transformation. Teacher and pupil roles are suddenly reversed when the woman is unable to decipher her lover's text message. (IFF Bratislava)
