On 3rd March 1976 in the Basque city of Vitoria, workers took to the streets to protest for better working conditions and higher wages. By the end of the night five people had been shot dead by the Spanish police, the youngest just 17 years old, and thousands more had been injured. The very same night acclaimed songwriter Lluís Llach, filled with rage wrote “Campanades a Morts”, a song which became an anthem for the political struggles at the end of the Franco era in Spain. Thirty years after the bloody events in Vitoria, through the politically engaged music of Llach and testimony from people involved on 3rd March 1976, this film offers a powerful reminder that we should never forget.
