Australien, Dezember 1918. Tom Sherbourne übernimmt die Stelle als Leuchtturmwärter, um auf der entlegenen Insel seinen traumatisierenden Erlebnissen als Soldat im Ersten Weltkrieg zu entkommen. Dort lernt er Isabel, die Tochter seines Arbeitgebers, kennen und lieben. Die beiden heiraten, doch ihr Kinderwunsch bleibt unerfüllt. Als ein Ruderboot mit einem Baby und dessen totem Vater angeschwemmt wird, nehmen sie sich der Kleinen an. Jahre später trifft Tom auf Hannah Roennfeldt, die leibliche Mutter des Findelkindes. (ORF)
