Dernière saison (Combalimon)

Inhalte(1)

Jean is a French farmer facing an important decision. Lonely, without a family, living on a remote farm, he is contemplating his future. He does not want to say goodbye to the family farm Combalimon, but he is 66 now, his retirement is nearing, and it is getting harder and harder for him to take care of his cows. He even tries to stretch his stay on the farm a little by marrying an African woman, but she soon leaves him to start a new life for herself elsewhere in France. "We are stupid fools," he sighs on the phone to a friend and fellow-sufferer. The French filmmaker Raphaël Mathié soberly records Jean's inner struggle without using a voice-over or music. The ashen images of winter enhance his gloomy mood, the empty landscapes his loneliness. But when he finally makes the decision to sell his cows and begins the negotiations, he doggedly keeps bargaining about the price. These are the last desperate attempts of a man who knows his fate is unavoidable but is unable to accept it. (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
