Vor dem Hintergrund der jüngsten Ereignisse im Nahen Osten stellt Nadav Schirmans vielschichtiger „Real-Life"-Thriller Vorurteile über den andauernden Konflikt in Frage. Regisseur Nadav Schirman setze sich bereits in seinen ersten beiden Dokumentarfilmen THE CHAMPAGNE SPY und IN THE DARK ROOM mit den Themen Spionage und Terrorismus auseinander. Für THE GREEN PRINCE arbeitet Schirman erstmals mit den oscarprämierten Produzenten John Battsek und Simon Chinn zusammen, die bereits Welterfolge wie MAN ON WIRE, EIN TAG IM SEPTEMBER und SEARCHING FOR SUGARMAN produzierten. Das Ergebnis der Zusammenarbeit ist ein fesselndes Zeugnis über Terror, Verrat, die Unmöglichkeit der richtigen Entscheidung und einer Freundschaft, die alle Grenzen überwindet. Seine Premiere feierte der Film auf dem Sundance Film Festival, wo er den Publikumspreis für den besten Dokumentarfilm erhielt. (Rapid Eye Movies)

A theme squeezed from Frederick Forsyth's novels, two talking heads, and blockbuster thriller suspense. The subject is so pure that it's a wonder no Hollywood studios are holding a race to see who can get this on the screen first. 4 ½.

The Green Prince is shot in a minimalist way and obviously with a small budget. The use of such primitive film techniques theoretically should not work at all, as ninety minutes of two alternating talking faces, occasionally interrupted by sporadic documentary shots, should deter viewers. However, it works thanks to the power of the story, which is hardly believable, but that's exactly how life writes itself. If someone made a feature film that I approached without knowing it was a portrayal of a true event, I would reject it as far-fetched. But the whole thing actually happened and I personally remember the brief news reports from foreign agencies. The 80% is not for acting or directing, but consider it recognition of the professionalism and humanity of two men who initially belonged to opposite sides of the barricade, only to later join forces and save human lives.
