Redemption

Miguel Gomes combined unknown 8mm and 16mm archival footage with voiceovers by those in power. Berlusconi, Merkel and Sarkozy reminisce on important periods in their lives. The mix of experimental film with political satire, humour and melancholy recalls Marker's famous film essay Sans Soleil.
Silvio Berlusconi speaks in a sad voice, for he is talking about something that he has lost. In the background, an image unfolds on cheap film stock. Even people of his calibre have a right to redemption, and the unknown footage has right to life. (Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival)
