Die Minions haben im Verlauf der Erdgeschichte stets den schlimmsten Schurken gedient. Zurzeit fehlt ihnen aber ein böses Idol. Antriebslos darben sie in schwerer Depression. Kevin, Stuart und Bob begeben sich daher beherzt auf die Suche nach einem neuen Anführer. Im Jahr 1968, also 42 vor Gru, landen sie in New York. Bei der Messe der Mega-Bösewichte in Orlando hoffen sie, fündig zu werden. Super-Schurkin Scarlett Overkill scheint die ideale Meisterin zu sein, erweist sich aber anspruchsvoller als erwartet. (ORF)

I would never have guessed that I would go to the movie theater to watch yellow jumping beans, but I did. The gags work excellently with the kids and adults will be delighted with the mass of references to important events, especially those relevant to the UK. Probably I will never watch this again, but occasionally it was rather entertaining.

Ja, der Film ist infantil, aber bei weitem nicht so sehr, wie ich (nach Ich - Einfach unverbesserlich 2) befürchtet habe. Witze für Groß und Klein, eine ausgezeichnete Musik, eine möglichst einfache Geschichte, die aber trotzdem überraschend ist, und eine gelungene Synchronisation. Und ein Ende, nach dem man gleich Lust hat, sich Ich - Einfach unverbesserlich anzusehen. Warum nicht?

I have nothing against them, I like them very much, but the Minions didn’t deserve such a tragic story for their first solo outing. The opening, when the hyperactive yellow creatures travel across history, works brilliantly and delivers exactly what we were looking forward to. The rest, due to the extremely unlikeable plot and the absence of any at least partially adult jokes, is just an artificially set-up mush, where it becomes more and more painfully apparent that the "outlandish" humour is suitable only for punchy shorts, not for ambitious feature films. I really feel sorry for all the parents who had to endure this with their children in the cinema – although seeing the kids’ enthusiasm is certainly a sufficient patch; at least from this point of view this film has my partial admiration...

After watching the trailer, I was expecting it to be a really impressive experience, but unfortunately, I only realized that trailers often reveal too much. In this case, almost all the best scenes appeared in the preview. This is simply a problem of the film industry. The movie entertained me, but it's just nothing exceptional. Not when you see the best parts even before the actual screening, like in a promotional shot.

Nun, das ist nicht allzu gut gelungen... Ich habe den Eindruck, dass die Minions einfach als Gelddruckmaschine geschaffen wurden und sich deshalb niemand große Mühe gegeben hat. Zum Glück habe ich ein Faible für Animationsfilme, so dass ich dem Film 3 Sterne gegeben habe, allerdings nur sehr knapp. Ich fand die Handlung wirklich blöd, statt Fil für die ganze Familie hätte ich eher für Kinder geschrieben. Es war schön zu erfahren, woher die Minions eigentlich kommen usw., aber das ist so ziemlich das einzig Gute an diesem Film, ansonsten fand ich ihn eher schlecht. Die ganze Handlung lässt sich wahrscheinlich nicht allein mit diesen gelben Ungeheuern bestreiten.
