Who better to defeat the enemy than those who knew it best? Christian Bauer’s film tells the story of a group of mostly Jewish émigrés who were trained at Camp Ritchie in Maryland USA during the WWII. Their mission: To wage a war of words on the enemy and break their morale. The story of these boys, now octogenarians, has never been told before. Using rare and unseen Archive Footage and the testimony of the Ritchie boys themselves, an extraordinary tale of unconventional heroes is revealed. During the war they played key roles in the liberation of Paris and numerous concentration camps, they fought in the battle of the bulge and interrogated prisoners. After the war, unwelcome (due to their German accents) in the veterans groups, most went on to have distinguished and prominent careers and never spoke of the key role they played in the allied victory. Now, for the first time they recount their stories with the humour, courage and intelligence which carried them through this dark period in Europe’s history. (DOK.fest München)
