In Alejandro G. Iñárritus existenzieller Komödie Birdman erhofft sich Riggan Thomson (Michael Keaton) durch seine Inszenierung eines ambitionierten neuen Theaterstücks am Broadway, neben anderen Dingen, vor allem eine Wiederbelebung seiner dahin siechenden Karriere. Zwar handelt es sich um ein ausgesprochen tollkühnes Unterfangen – doch der frühere Kino-Superheld hegt größte Hoffnungen, dass dieses kreative Wagnis ihn als Künstler legitimiert und jedermann, auch ihm selbst, beweist, dass er kein abgehalfterter Hollywood-Star ist. Doch während die Premiere des Stücks unaufhaltsam näher rückt, wird Riggans Hauptdarsteller durch einen verrückten Unfall bei den Proben verletzt und muss schnell ersetzt werden. Auf den Vorschlag von Hauptdarstellerin Lesley (Naomi Watts) und auf das Drängen seines besten Freundes und Produzenten Jake (Zach Galifianakis) hin engagiert Riggan widerwillig Mike Shiner (Edward Norton) – ein unberechenbarer Typ, aber eine Garantie für viele Ticketverkäufe und begeisterte Kritiken. Bei der Vorbereitung auf sein Bühnendebüt muss er sich nicht nur mit seiner Freundin, Co-Star Laura (Andrea Riseborough), und seiner frisch aus der Entzugsklinik kommenden Tochter und Assistentin Sam (Emma Stone) auseinandersetzen, sondern auch mit seiner Ex-Gattin Sylvia (Amy Ryan), die gelegentlich vorbeischaut, um die Dinge in ihrem Sinn zu richten. Englisch What I enjoyed most were the allusions to commercial Hollywood – "How about Jeremy Renner?" "Who?" --- "Awful, we'd have raised, like..." "A serial killer..." "Or Justin Bieber." --- "He's got a new nose! And if he doesn't like that one, we'll get him another one. We can use Meg Ryan's guy." At these moments I laughed genuinely and very much out loud. And it's certainly one of the more interesting and original films I've seen. I applaud the "drumming" atmosphere, as I was actually tense as a guitar string a couple of times (and only because of drums!). I don't want to dissect everything Birdman is about (or what most people think it actually is); what's important to me is that I enjoyed myself for 110 minutes. I also found Norton quite entertaining in the first half. I appreciate the cameos by Spider-Man, Iron Man (how the previous "Robert Downey, Jr. bashing" is developed beautifully in one of the last scenes), and even Bumblebee. Michael Bay can be grateful to Iñárritu for finally getting his work into a proper film. After all, it did win the statuette... ()

Englisch You rarely get to see something so emotionally deep and true, filmed in such a captivating way. Birdman is exactly the type of movie I had been secretly hoping to see - an autopsy of the human soul with all its joys and sorrows, presented in a form that did not turn this into a pseudo-psychological analysis filled with wannabe philosophical questions, but rather an absolutely amazing spectacle with an effort to appeal to both the art film lovers and mainstream audience. A critique of the world of film and theatre as well as the critics and the entire entertainment industry. In a word, excellent. Absolutely brilliant acting performances! Yes, I would love to see this at least one more time. ()
