Der amerikanische Millionrssohn Richard Greenleaf geniet sein Leben lieber mit seiner Freundin Marge Duval in Italien, als sich zu Hause um die Geschfte zu kmmern. Sein Vater beauftragt daraufhin Tom Ripley, der behauptet, Richard vom College zu kennen, seinen Spross in Italien zu finden und ihn zur Heimkehr zu bewegen. 5.000 Dollar hat er ihm dafr versprochen - aber als Ripley Richard gefunden hat, denkt er gar nicht an den Heimflug. Er mchte auch einmal das "Dolce vita" genieen und er hat mehr im Sinn... Weshalb sollte er sich mit 5.000 Dollar abspeisen lassen, wenn er wesentlich mehr haben kann? Dafr muss er allerdings einige Demtigungen des doch recht berheblichen Lebemanns ber sich ergehen lassen. Als die beiden alleine auf einer Bootstour unterwegs sind, passiert es Tom bringt Richard um und kehrt alleine zurck. Marge erzhlt er, Richard sei durchgebrannt und habe sie verlassen. Aber um die dritte Minute nach dm Anfang können Sie einen Miniauftritt, nicht einmal einen Cameo, von Romy Schneider genießen, die bis dahin, abgesehen von ihrem Debüt, nur große Rollen gespielt hatte - und dann das. Bumm! Und das war’s. Das hat sie nun davon, dass sie so überstürzt nach Frankreich geflohen ist.

A high-quality crime drama, where the central theme is burning envy, which, along with the absence of moral restraints, leads to the elimination of the more successful person and the perpetrator's attempt to pass himself off as the murdered victim of the crime. Rather than a regular crime story, it is an interesting psychological drama, further emphasized by the excellent performance of Alain Delon in the lead role. The point deviates from the source material, but that's not at all detrimental - this world is already filled with enough immorality, and such satisfying justice, even if it comes by chance, can sometimes be downright pleasing. I have not yet seen the later American remake, but a brief glance at the difference in the number of ratings for both versions clearly shows how immense the difference in strength and impact is between American and European cinema. Hollywood versions usually have ten times the certainty. Overall impression: 80%.

Good vibes are the main thing that will come to your mind in the first five minutes. You’ll then wake up and realize that nothing is as good as it seems at first. Then those feelings get deeper and deeper and then you’ll even feel hatred for some of the characters in the movie. I’m saying that because you wouldn’t have guessed it from the first 20 minutes. That’s also why I have to say that I didn’t expect such a good thriller. I enjoyed Alain Delon’s character to the fullest and I don’t think I’ll be able to forget about him for quite some time.
